The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity is delighted to announce the appointment of Lucy Womack as Chair of Trustees
Having served as a trustee of the charity for a decade, Lucy’s appointment as Chair of Trustees will see her become the first-ever female to take on the role, whilst Lucy also becomes a third-generation member of her family to be named Chair of Trustees after both her father and grandfather fulfilled the role in years gone by.
Throughout her time as a trustee with The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, Lucy has been at the forefront of the charity’s scholarship programme. The programme, which provides high-performing pupils in the county with an opportunity to study at one of Leicestershire and Rutland’s independent schools, has seen recipients obtain places at some of the country’s most prestigious universities.
Formally commencing the role in March 2022, Lucy succeeds David Howard as Chair of Trustees following a six-year term in which the charity has progressed to offer its unique interest-free loans to more people than ever, in addition to utilising its available funding to wider causes across Leicestershire & Rutland. Whilst stepping down from the role of Chair of Trustees, David will remain on the charity’s Board of Trustees.
Speaking on her appointment, Lucy said: “I’m incredibly proud to take on the role of Chair of Trustees at The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity. The charity is a cause that’s close to my heart. I’m looking forward to working with my fellow trustees and partners to grow the charity and provide more loans to businesses and students across Leicestershire and Rutland.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful job that my predecessor, David Howard, has done during his term as Chair. Through his stewardship, the charity is now providing our unique interest-free loans to people aged over 18 and under 45, as we expanded our age criteria, whilst our links to partners within the region have grown stronger. I look forward to continuing to work with David and my fellow trustees, and am sure his experience and knowledge will be of great support moving forward.”
David Howard, former Chair of Trustees of The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity, added: “I’m delighted to see Lucy take on the role of Chair of Trustees and would like to congratulate her on her appointment. Having worked closely with Lucy in her role as a trustee over many years, I know first-hand how enthusiastic she is about what The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity does and will work hard in her role to ensure more people across Leicestershire benefit from our unique support. I’m incredibly proud of how the charity has developed during my tenure as Chair, notably in how we were able to increase our age-limit criteria to deliver loans to more people than ever before, and for how we were able to support businesses during COVID-19. I now look forward to supporting Lucy as part of the charity’s Board of Trustees.”
